Chris Newton

Non-executive Director

Chris has had a 40-year upstream oil and gas industry career covering the spectrum of exploration, development and production, developing core strengths in exploration, petroleum economics, strategic planning, business development and ultimately business leadership.

A 1978 Geology graduate from Durham University, England, Chris also holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (SIA). After a 10-year early career as a petroleum geologist, primarily in Australia, he spent more than 27 years in South East Asia in various industry capacities including Managing Director of Fletcher Challenge in Brunei, a stint as Managing Director of Shell Deepwater Borneo, President of Santos – Indonesia and CEO of Jakarta-listed oil and gas company, Energi Mega Persada (EMP). Along with Mr Tom Soulsby, he co-founder Singapore based Risco Energy in July 2010.

Chris was an active Director of the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) between 2003 to 2008, including serving as President from 2004 to 2007.

Chris is the oil and gas advisor to the Jakarta based Castle Asia Group, an advisor the Northern Oil and Gas Australia (NOGA) and is an active industry speaker. Chris is also a Non-Executive Director of ASX listed Lion Energy.


Govert van Ek

B.Eng (Hons), Ph.D

Non-executive Director

Dr Govert van Ek started his upstream oil and gas career at Shell in 1996 having graduated from The University of Manchester with a Ph.D in total technology. He then worked for a number of investment banks becoming responsible for signing off technical matters for loans in the upstream oil sector. He became Managing Director of a number of upstream E&P companies including Spyker Energy Plc which later sold its Dutch operations to a Barclays bank subsidiary in 2012. He was briefly Sun Resources Managing Director before co-founding a number of successful software technology companies where he remains active.


Dave King

Non-executive Director

After an early career in research/academia, David worked in the oil and gas industry as Chief Geophysicist/Exploration Manager with Offshore Oil NL and later Hartogen Energy Ltd.

Dr King was a founder and director of Eastern Star Gas Ltd, Gas2Grid Ltd and Sapex Ltd. He has substantial natural resource related experience, having previously served as managing director of North Flinders Mines Ltd and CEO of Beach Petroleum Ltd and Claremont Petroleum Ltd.

Dr King is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; a Fellow of the Australasian institute of Mining and Metallurgy; and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists.

Dr King is currently non-executive Chairman of Cellmid Ltd (ASX.CDY), Litigation Capital Management Ltd (ASX.LCA), and African Petroleum Corporation Ltd (OAX.APCL), and Non-executive Director of Galilee Energy Limited (ASX.GLL).

Dr King brings strong oil and gas technical and management skills and combined with his extensive board experience will enhance the overall Tap board capability.


Zane Lewis

Zane Lewis

Non-executive Director

Zane is a principal and joint founder of corporate advisory firm SmallCap Corporate which specialises in corporate advice and compliance administration to public companies. He is also a member of Chartered Secretaries Australia.

Zane provides the board with a wealth of knowledge obtained from his diverse financial and corporate experience in previous appointments.


Kamarudin Baba

LLB, ACIS

Non-executive Director

Mr. Kamarudin Baba holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of London and was also admitted as Associate of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom. He was issued a certificate of Legal Practice from the Legal Profession Qualifying Board Malaysia and was admitted to practice as Advocate and Solicitor in the High Court of Malaya, Peninsular Malaysia.

Kamarudin has over 30 years’ experience as a company secretary, in private legal practice and in-house counsel. He is currently the General Counsel of the Northern Gulf Petroleum Group (NGP).
